Many people start their careers during a time in their lives when they’re not quite sure what they want. Healthcare can be a career choice that is equal parts rewarding and challenging, so as long as you understand that edict and want to help people above everything else, you have a place at Baptist Health. “Originally, I wanted to be a teacher,” said Caitlynn Foiles, RN II, CCRN. “I was actually in an education program for three years before I decided it wasn’t for me.” Lucky for us and Caitlynn, Baptist Health quickly became her new dream. I started at Baptist Health after RN school. I started in CVICU, which was a dream job for me. I’m super passionate about the heart and treating critically ill patients. I learned so much in my two years there, and I started extra education opportunities as well and eventually worked through the Cath Lab and the CRN III track. Whitney Jester also found us in the middle of a career pivot. She didn’t have a healthcare background, but there was something that drew her to apply at Baptist Health. “I wanted to take that shot!” She exclaimed. “I really wanted to work somewhere and still help patients.” Now she is the frontline of patient interaction in her role as Office Representative in our Gurdon location. Every day she’s able to help patients, whether it’s with a friendly smile or a chat with someone about their health care needs. Terry Hayes, IS Manager, found that same benefit in his non-clinical role as well. While he may not interact with his patients directly, he found that his work directly contributed to their overall well-being. Now it’s his mission to bring that helping philosophy to members of his own team, as he works to cultivate the talent he works alongside every day. One of my team members had spent most of our years supporting our legacy clinical application that has now been replaced by EPIC. We’ve taken her and been able to cross-train her on the new application so she can learn a new skill set and get better depth in her coverage for our department. She’s done very well. We were concerned because she hadn’t worked with it before, but she’s now one of the go-to people for that application. Supporting who they have and whoever they can help is the Baptist Health way. No matter where you start, we urge our people to find new challenges and interests in their careers. Whether it’s clinical or analytical, administrative or supportive, we set our people up to get what they want out of their career. Where do you want to go in your career? Join a company that understands change is constant, and it’s to be celebrated, not discouraged. Apply to Baptist Health and keep your dreams going!
