The Big Impact of Pharmacy with Nathan Adams

Eleven years ago, Nathan Adams was a fresh-faced employee straight out of pharmacy school. He’d achieved three years of health care experience while earning his license, but Baptist Health was his first foray into the larger health system world. To guide him through it, we used the “buddy system.” Nathan went through orientation with another student by his side, and slowly but surely the buddies continued to bond through their respective careers. The program was very big with pharmacy students at the time, so we had our own job roles and responsibilities, but we worked as a unit to make sure our tasks were completed. Most of us ended up staying at Baptist Health as full-fledged pharmacists. Times sure have changed for Nathan since that first big day on campus. He’s moved from our major hub in Little Rock to an outlying facility in Arkadelphia. There was so much to learn in Little Rock at the beginning of his career, but now Nathan appreciates the autonomy that this smaller facility provides. In Little Rock, you’re part of the large main hospital, which lets you do a lot of clinical things. And you can do several different kinds of shifts, like in the IV Room or up on the floor, all over the place. But here, we’ve got a smaller staff, so you do a little bit of everything every day. You’re more flexible with your location and you go where you’re needed. To Nathan, the switch came at the perfect time. In the Arkadelphia pharmacy, he has the opportunity to really see the fruits of his labor and appreciate what he as a Baptist Health employee can do. “The impact that one person can make at a smaller facility like this feels pretty significant,” Nathan said thoughtfully. I know every Nursing Manager, the Director of Nursing. I’m in meeting every day with the Hospital Administrator, which other pharmacists in larger facilities aren’t able to do. In this type of environment, if you have ideas or suggestions on how to tackle problems, your opinion really is heard and you can make a big impact. And you’ll be able to be home by dinner time. Besides his awesome teammates and interesting daily duties, Nathan is a fan of our pharmacy shift schedules. “I work a shift from 6:30-4:30, then I go hang out with my two-year-old son and wife,” Nathan laughed. A career with Baptist Health means that we’re doing whatever we can to fit your individual needs. For Nathan, a four-day work week and an influential list of responsibilities is what keeps his motivation going. What will it be for you? Apply to Baptist Health today and see the start of your very own ripple effect!
